OUTREACH SERVICE Brings the Library to you!
RRPL’s Outreach Service provides free delivery and pick-up of books and other library
materials to Rocky River residents who are homebound due to age, illness, or physical disability. For over 20 years, patrons have considered this a lifeline to learning and mental stimulation.
Our outreach librarians select and take materials to approximately 65 homebound patrons, as well as to three senior facilities including, Rocky River Senior Center, The Normandy, and Pinzone Tower.
This service has many special qualities:
- access to the entire collection,
- personal selection of items based on the individual’s preferences by a degreed librarian,
- and a visit that provides great pleasure to older adults.
This program has primarily served elderly patrons during the last years of their lives. If you or someone you know needs this service, or if you have a question about your specific situation, please call Janet Sponseller at (440) 895-3755. If you live with an able-bodied adult relative, you may not qualify for Outreach Service. This service is provided by the Library, with additional support from the Rocky River Public Library Foundation.
Patron Testimonials:
"I am so grateful for the outreach service. The books I receive are current. They keep me up on recent happenings. I also appreciate the kindness of the librarian that delivers them." - Fran K.
"The Outreach program is wonderful. I tell everybody about it. I no longer drive so it is a help to me. I have always loved movies and the outreach service allows me to continue watching them. I like to stay up on the latest films. "
- Irene M.
"The outreach service is a tremendous service which I truly appreciate. Because of my low vision and physical limitations I have very few diversions. The Books on Compact Disc broaden my horizons and introduce me to a variety of authors. I would be lost without then." - Margaret F.
"The reference service is absolutely wonderful. Their phone responses are timely. They have been on top of everything. They are cheery – always solicitous. The outreach service should be a paradigm for other libraries to follow." - Richard S.
"The outreach service is a tremendous outlet. Reading has been the centerpiece of my life. Without the BOCD’s I would be lost." - Anonymous
"I saw your funny little car and I knew I should call the library. The Outreach Service is a wonderful thing. " - Karen W.
